Digital Business Transformation

The Princes Trust, Children’s Charity - Project Insight (£7m +)

Project Insight is the largest programme of business change ever undertaken in the 40 year history of this leading charity. This Digital Business Transformation included the design & development of new streamlined business processes, enabled by a CRM System that fused Oracle Service Cloud, Oracle Policy Automation and Oracle WebCentre Sites technologies. The resultant solution has allowed this progressive charity to leap forward to embrace a new TOM, which will enable them meeting their commitment of supporting another 1 Million Young People within the next 10 Years.

This programme has been identified as the most pioneering UK Oracle Service Cloud implementation in 2016/17.

Crichlow Consultancy - Basil was engaged to lead the engagement and management of all technical delivery elements of this programme.

This included:

  • Supporting extension of corporate governance within PMO
  • Procurement management of the technical implementation contracts
  • Direct resource leadership of the integrated technology delivery plans for the 5 major programme contributors:

Crichlow Consultancy was engaged by Virtual Clarity to support the Cloud Service migration consultation and strategy planning requirements for PNC Bank, Pittsburgh USA - Bidding Process

This involved the Work Breakdown Structure creation, initial resource planning and resultant TOM required to advise the client what it would take to successfully migrate their approximately 2300 applications, from their datacenters to the cloud.

Basil Crichlow positive contribution across this bid helped Virtual Clarity Secure this Multi-Million Dollar Business with one of the USA leading Retail Banking organisations - PNC Bank.

Regulatory Change Programme

Crichlow Consultancy was engaged by NTT Data UK, to support their client through this complex Solvency 2, Pillar 3 reporting transition.

Basil Crichlow led an existing project team in support of Solvency 2 Pillar 3 YE-2014 and Q3-15 Syndicate & PRA Submissions.

Programme Objectives included:

  • Obtaining business requirement ratification of Enhanced Schedules 2-9 Data Repositories, where they pertain to supporting Q3 Solvency II Pillar 3 Reporting.
  • SDLC - Manage development team via AGILE Methodology in the build of Power Pivot framework solution to support Enhanced Schedules.
  • Manage Key Stakeholder, Technical Accounting Business interface to AGILE build of all relevant Enhanced Schedules.
  • Manage Enhanced Schedules data feed mapping to Tagetik application in support of Q3 Solvency II Pillar 3 Reporting requirement.
  • Management of delivery and support of appropriate hardware to enable Enhanced Schedule creation and medium term requirements in supplying the Tagetik application.
  • Representing progress of this effort at appropriate governance sessions

Complex Global Storage Migration & Enterprise Backup Environment Update

Crichlow Consulting was engaged by BP to manage these two complex technical transitions for their global operational division.

Basil Crichlow was responsible for formulating the strategy, leading and delivering all programme & project requirements in the End of Service Life (EoSL) Storage and Backup Programme, within the GOI Investment Programme Division of BP.

This successfully delivered programme was responsible for implementing enterprise level EMC VNX / VMAX SAN storage hardware with corresponding reference architecture and support models.  Successfully migrating 1.2Petabytes of global cross business critical data (2100 Servers, 3980 Applications), to new enterprise level SAN hardware within planned time and budget. We also provided strategic review and specification for the implementation of EMC VPLEX Storage Virtualisation platform, to Global Data Centres. Programme Budget US$17.4M

The Backup Programme successfully updated globally situated Oracle Tape Drives within requisite Tape Libraries as well as implemented 2 fully functional Data Domain solutions. Programme Budget US$8.6M

This programme utilised fully matrix managed On-Shore and Best Shore resources, culminating in over 18 Years of executed Man Effort (45 Direct Reports), across 10 interdependent projects.

Marketing Automation and CRM Data Management Portfolio

Crichlow Consulting was engaged by Thomson Reuters to lead the delivery of a portfolio of Data Centric projects across their CRM and leading Digital Product platforms

Basil Crichlow was responsible for initiating, leading and delivering all project requirements in the Marketing Enablement Programme, within the Financial and Risk Division (F&R) of Thomson Reuters.

Portfolio remit covered the areas of ratifying business requirements, Business Process ETL Flow, Informatica Data Quality updates, OBIEE Reporting, Marketing Automation, Salesforce.Com Integration, MDM and Customer Data Integrity.

Basil Crichlow also managed and delivered major programmes as advised by F&R MIS Senior Management, Key projects included:

  • F&R MIS GSAM Re-Organisation
    • Responsible for executing Business Analysis function, prioritizing requirements, obtaining business approval, creating WBS/Project plans and delivering project through to full business sign-off
  • End User Classification Update (Eikon)
    • Responsible for analysing and specifying process data flows (Inc Reference data review) from Digital Product Usage (Eikon) through Sales Order Management (Siebel & Salesforce.com) to Data Warehouse. Create/execute project plan and interface with product development team via Jira. Create/execute test plan to ensure adjusted process data flows delivered the desired results. Plan/Execute migration weekend to ensure all deliverables were achieved through the appropriate command and control procedures.
  • E-Marketing in Eikon (Eikon)

Delivered all project management planning and delivery capabilities for the E-Marketing digital product initiatives.


Programme – Multiple Siebel CRM and Data Warehouse Upgrade

Crichlow Consulting was engaged by Thomson Reuters to lead the delivery of Siebel CRM upgrades 4.4, 5.0 & 5.5 and to design, prototype and deliver technology leading Oracle 10g RAC Data Warehouse.

Basil Crichlow was responsible for successfully delivering key Siebel CRM projects within the Global Operations Division. This £33M programmes key objective was to streamline the order management process and increase overall throughput and efficiency by the introduction of cutting edge technology.

These projects not only delivered major functional and highly resilient upgrades to the production environment, they also delivered the organisational standards for Sun hardware, Siebel 7.8, Solaris 10, OBIEE, Oracle Fusion Suite and the delivery of the Oracle 10G RAC Data Warehouse.

Global Transition and Transformation Programme

Crichlow Consultancy was engaged by T-Systems UK Limited, to support their client BP through this highly complex LAN/WAN Transition and Transformation Programme.

Basil Crichlow jointly led the Transition and Transformation Management responsibilities with T-Systems senior leadership, enabling the migration of LAN/WAN Infrastructure Management and Services from multiple global legacy suppliers to a single global supplier in T-Systems, for British Petroleum (BP).

Achievements include designing and delivering the programme at Senior Director Level, to include defining programme strategy roadmap, programme deliverables, governance and methodologies

Deal size: US$500M. Global team situated in UK, Europe and North America.

We successfully replaced the Core CISCO Global Backbone and implemented CISCO Routers as part of transitioning the management of all LAN/WAN architecture for approximately 580 globally situated offices/refineries/wind farms to T-Systems. We also successfully transformed 250 of 1600 globally situated sites, that met the agreed programme criteria in a lucrative cost saving exercise.

Environment Strategy and Service Management

Crichlow Consulting was engaged by Ricoh Europe to lead the design and delivery of an infrastructure transition strategy to effectively support their major software integration programme

Basil Crichlow role was to define programme strategy, programme deliverables, governance and methodologies and gain Senior Management support for the SHARE programme, environment process and technical team management. He successfully advised the business Directorate on infrastructure transition strategies, which supported the continued European integration of Ricoh UK, NRG, Lanier, Infotec, IKon and Gestetner businesses.

Basil Crichlow was instrumental in managing the infrastructure implementation and support of this £100M programme through outsourced IBM & Cap Gemini resources based in Netherlands, North & West America and India.

Other successful initiative delivered:

  • the Oracle 9I to 10g upgrade for the Oracle Siebel CRM environments as well as all non-production systems across all Data Centres.
  • Facilitated the documentation of policies and procedures for all environment management processes.
  • Devised and developed the Source code management implementation & Derived code migration policies and procedures to allow production support and development strands to be kept in-sync.
  • Incorporated capacity planning methods to make sure the infrastructure continued to support Ricoh's implementation plans and provide a roadmap to meet future business requirements as well as advise on improvements to configuration management policies.

Business Change Programme Model Implementation

Crichlow Consulting was engaged by CPA Global, Jersey -  to lead the design and delivery of a business change programme methodology into a greenfield environment.

Basil Crichlow delivered programme and team structure around major new IP Search product design, creation and launch into new market.

Basil also assisted the IS Director and Project Sponsors in evaluating new projects entering the Programme roadmap.  Developed and maintained key project sponsor relationships.  Oversaw management of material programme dependencies and risks.  Assisted Project Manager’s and Business Change Manager in fulfilling PMO and Programme process requirements.

Implementation of the programme methodology supported improved project budget expenditure, timescales management, quality and benefit realisation review output. Improvement of the central PMO resources through project planning, cost consolidation and better management of dependencies, risks and issues.  Participated in client’s Programme/Project management meetings.  Enforced Programme Governance on all related projects.

Technical Programme Management

Basil Crichlow had a varied 7 year career within this organisation, having led multiple technology programmes as well as leading the Emerging Technology Division for 2 years, aligned with Corporate Finance reporting.   He also has had success with Interfacing with globally situated Fixed Income sales and Equities Analysts to collate requirements for adaptation and enhancement to RADAR (Rapid Access to Distribution And Research) and subordinate applications.

The RADAR framework consisted of a number of business applications that manage the functions linked to CRM, main client interaction database, Equity research content creation, Research content metadata tagging and storage and corporate and private client web access.  These applications were instrumental to the ability of Equity and Fixed Income analysts in the performance of their duties.

He represented business interests in Global IT Programme reviews.  He coordinated the risk management efforts for the programme of (CTB) change.  Supplied senior managers with consistent, reliable analysis and made recommendations that presented a good fit with the sections business strategies. He contributed toward the DSDM methodology creation and implementation to the global organisation.
